Liberty Christian School

Liberty Christian School was founded in January of 2003 to meet the educational needs of the girls in the Shadow of His Wings Orphanage. Most of the girls had never been given the opportunity to study. Therefore, ten to twelve year olds need to start in first or second grade. In any other school setting, it is not feasible for these ages to sit in those grades. Virtually all of the girls are now readers, breaking the cycle of illiteracy that is so very pervasive in this country.
For the 2007 school year, the girls moved into a new building - less expensive for the Project (it was a "fixer-upper") and closer to the girls' Home. The girls are now able to
walk to school each day and even have a nice yard in which to play for recess. Those in charge of the school, Raul & Carina Aguilar, live downstairs in the building with their three children. This provides a home for them as well as added security for the school.

Liberty Christian School has added a new grade this year. In 2006, 4 students completed the elementary grades (grade 6) and were ready to enter middle school. In order to meet this need, the Aguilar family went to great lengths to get the government approval to have the middle school grades in the school as well. The Lord blessed and they were successful. Some of the girls are currently taking two grades per year to catch up to the "normal" grade for their age group. What a smart and determined group of young ladies we have!

The girls meet the mayor and get a warm welcome to Monjas.
