Carroll Bishop and The Simpsons founded James Project of Latin America in 2003. For the first three years, Carroll served as a housemother and site director, and then took on the role of co-director until 2013.

At the age of 40, while raising four children as a single parent, Carroll completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Education with an Instructional Media Endorsement. She taught in a school system in eastern Montana for 13 years, during which time she went to school during the summers to obtain a Master’s Degree in Education with a focus on reading.

As a response of obedience to the voice of God, Carroll left the US for the mission field to teach at Christian Academy of Guatemala. Carroll taught at CAG and nurtured the children of other missionaries in grades 6, 7, 8, and 9 for two years. It was at the beginning of her second year when she and the Simpsons heard the call from the Lord to start Shadow of His Wings Orphanage.

Her focus continues to be on Shadow of His Wings. Although there are now new directors, Carroll has felt that she is to stay in Monjas and help in other areas of the project. At the present time she is involved in the prayer/healing ministry with various children, as an advisor for the new directors, and as an information source for new missionaries. She also helps with family visits, shares the vision of the Project with short-term teams and is involved in intercessory prayer ministry for the Project.

Carroll is also in the process of writing a book about how The James Project started and her time as Co-director.
